Strategies for Marketing Organic Food Products

Techniques for Marketing Organic Food Products There is a worldwide developing interest and gracefully for natural nourishments. This has come about because of expanded wellbeing mindfulness and sanitation, a developing interest to ensure the earth and creature government assistance. The International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movement (IFOAM) characterizes natural creation as a procedure that depends on biological procedures, biodiversity and cycles adjusted to neighborhood conditions instead of the utilization of contributions with unfavorable impacts (IFOAM, 2010). Promoting the item will give the connection that will fulfill both the interest and the flexibly. Along these lines promoting the items will give the connection between the makers and the purchasers. While the showcasing of these items is created in the U.S.A, the Asian promoting is simply creating. This exposition will break down advertising of natural food items in the U.S. what's more, in Asia. The natural food creation in the Asian nations is mostly acco mplished for the fare showcase as the household utilization is as yet rising (IFOAM, 2004). This is conversely with the U.S. advertise where the quantity of natural food item shoppers has been expanding progressively (Dimitri Oberholtzer, 2009). Creation In most Asian nations natural creation is fundamentally for little ranchers so as to help them to act naturally adequate and improve the nature of the dirt. It is chiefly accomplished for send out. Natural food creation in Asia is yet to create. In spite of the fact that the Asian nations structure 25 percent of the individuals from (IFOAM) the region occupied with natural cultivating is still little as by 2003 all the Asian nations had just used under 1 percent of all horticultural land in natural cultivating except for china IFOAM, 2004). The neighborhood showcases in Asia are not built up and are just developing. Showcasing activities are being propelled. There are National Initiatives to build up the natural division. There are activities by NGOs supporting to rehearse natural horticulture and preparing them on the most proficient method to advertise the natural food items. The vast majority of the natural cultivating has support from the grassroots level. In most Asian nations there are uncommon national size of natural creation and just India has an administration activity. The Indian government (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APFPEDA)) activity is just intended to help with sending out of the natural food and not to build up the household showcase. APFPEDA offers preparing to makers and confirmation organizations, innovative work administrations: advancing affirmation programs, creating approaches, improving nature of administrations, advancing Indian natural nourishments. Absence of appropriate guidelines and affirmation forms has frustrated the improvement of the natural food creation and promoting. Anyway this pattern is changing as there are as of now a few nations that have created National Organic Regulations to advance both fare and household creation. The guidelines are liable for setting the measures. Right now the greater part of the Asian natural nourishments are guaranteed by remote bodies, with just China, Israel, Japan, Thailand, India and Philippines being the main Asian nations with their own confirmation (IFOAM, 2004). As probably the biggest shopper and one of the nations with a high for each capita pay, any adjustment in the U.S utilization pattern will have an impact. Therefore natural food creation and development has been influenced by the U.S utilization. The natural food creation industry noticed an expansion of 16-21 percent in 2008. The business gets government bolster both in fiscal terms and in creating approaches. This diverges from the Asian business which is still during the time spent setting strategies (Report purchaser, 2010). The 2008 Farm Act distributed $5 million to do additionally explore on the showcasing arrangement of natural food items in U.S. There are guidelines in the U.S. which are given by the 2002 USDA National Organic Standards. Difficulties The primary difficulties confronting the natural food advertising are the valuing rivalry and coordinations plans. The natural nourishments need to contend with other non-natural food sources as far as estimating, assortments and the recurrence of creation. The natural food items are costly to create. Their framework is yet to be created and hence it is hard for the showcasing associations to sell them at a serious cost. The natural food items are costly both in the Asian nations and in US. In US natural nourishments are 10 to 30 percent more costly than the traditional food items (Dimitri Oberholtzer, 209). The household customers are not educated on the advantages of utilizing natural items. Customers have little data on natural food items and most buyers will just analyze the costs of the food items as they don't have the foggiest idea about the advantages of natural nourishments to themselves and to the nature. Aside from this, the natural nourishments have confronted rivalry with the effectively evolved traditional food items. Since there are just a couple of educated customers, the natural food organizations need to vie for this modest number of purchasers. There is a need to make shopper mindfulness. There is along these lines a requirement for the pertinent specialists to gadget approaches to initially build up a residential market for natural nourishments. There is capability of development that outcomes from the way that there are worries by most purchasers with the high concoction, for example, pesticides remainders in numerous nourishments. Notwithstanding this natural nouris hments are additionally favored by the individuals who are been debilitated. Another test looked in Asia is that the makers need advertising abilities. This prompts the makers confronting difficulties from rivaling general store chains. The majority of the natural providers are littler when contrasted with the customary food providers. This prompts suspension of those natural nourishments that are moderate moving, hence disturbing the previously creating pattern. Furthermore, the vast majority of the nations have not created naming laws. Customers will have more certainty when buying named items. This is urgent for affirmation of value considering there are numerous self announced natural items in the market. In the U.S the natural nourishments are sold in marked product offerings just as private-name natural items, whereby this has come about to an expansion of the private-name items from 35 out of 2003 to 540 out of 2007 (Dimitri Oberholtzer, 2009) . There is a high utilization of natural items in the U.S. The utilization rate keeps on expanding. Because of this expansion, the retail costs of natural food items expanded from $3.6 billion of every 1997 to $21.1 billion out of 2008, (Dimitri Oberholtzer, 2009). The development rate was somewhat because of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) endeavors of setting gauges that gave purchasers trust in utilizing the items. USDA likewise gave a rule on how one would perceive that an item is a natural item. The utilization rate has anyway expanded at a higher rate than the development of the natural nourishments, accordingly making a lack in the gracefully of the items. This has essentially been ascribed to the guidelines that are required in changing over and guaranteeing a farmland to a natural homestead. Item and showcasing improvement In the Asian nations the ranchers need trust in the natural food creation. Once more, the gracefully of the items has been developing at a higher rate than the interest, along these lines ranchers have been left with surpluses of their produces. The promoting associations will on occasion neglect to purchase all the produces from the ranchers, in this manner the ranchers need to search for their own business sectors. This disappoints the ranchers who will move to other homestead produces. Being another and youthful creating market, the makers have needed to rival corrupt brokers. Once more, the structure of showcasing association has had an impact in building up the market. A large portion of the showcasing associations were little associations and they confronted difficulties, for example enrolling and holding quality staff. Again because of the difficulties of deficiency of ventures reserves, they will go for direct advertising, for example, home conveyances and versatile markets. There is a requirement for the makers and markets to unit and coordinate so as to battle these corrupt dealers. The Asian market is in a similar situation as the U.S. showcase during the 1990s where free little chain outlets and food-cooperatives were the sole wholesalers of the natural food items. Right now these food items are for the most part provided in the grocery stores. This is a pattern getting up to speed in the Asian markets. There are approaches to create and help bolster the showcasing associations for the natural food items in Asia. The nearby activities ought to give those systems that take out delegates, in this way diminishing the costs of the items and subsequently promising more purchasers, while simultaneously advancing the makers. Any non-business outside financing should went with associations own expansion in capital venture. This guarantees coherence after the outside subsidizing is pulled out. The majority of the advertising associations start little whereby some don't have an office, and work from home. This might be palatable to begin with, yet as the organization develops, it ought to have an official area of activity. The area picked is significant. It ought to be close and effectively available to the clients and sufficiently close to the makers. This gives it an expert appearance. The organization ought to be specific on the decision of produce it begins with, e.g., vegetables, and afterward include the items as it develops. Valuing is essential for the showcasing association, therefore it should think of the favored evaluating procedure. Most natural food items promoting association incline toward value separation. Another point to be considered is the association between the maker and the buyer. This ought to be talked about to lessen contradictions between

Adventure Genre

The Action/Adventure Genre The Action/Adventure Genre The Action/Adventure Genre By Maeve Maddox In spite of the fact that I utilized The DaVinci Code for instance in my conversation of the riddle, anticipation, and, spine chiller sorts, Dan Browns books may be all the more suitably positioned in the activity/experience class. The Public Library of Charlotte Mecklenburg County (NC) incorporates Browns The Lost Symbol (2009) in its rundown of Action-Adventure audits. This logical note goes before the rundown: Otherwise called what might be compared to the romance book, these books offer interest, edge-of-your-seat fervor, and extraordinary districts with characters who are savvy, brave, regularly chivalrous, and now and then underhanded. Exactly how elusive class marks can be, in any event, for bookkeepers, can be found in the rundown that follows this portrayal of the activity/experience classification. One of the books. A Bad Day for Sorry (2009) by Sophie Littleton, is set in a lethargic Missouri town. what's more, includes a female hero looking for a missing little child. Operator Jeff Herman characterizes the activity experience novel as far as reason and situation direction. The plot takes after the customary chivalrous journey story, the monomyth as characterized by Joseph Campbell: A saint adventures forward from the universe of basic day into a district of otherworldly miracle: fantastic powers are there experienced and a definitive triumph is won: the legend returns from this secretive experience with the ability to give aids on his individual man. The Hero with a Thousand Faces Hermans portrayal of the class brings out a 21st century setting: A few stories are supplied with a variety of universal fear mongers, arms-bootleggers, street pharmacists, and techno-privateers. Most loved settings incorporate wildernesses, deserts, swamps, and mountainsany kind of barren wasteland (dont preclude a urban domain) that can reverberate the hazards that resonate through the storys human measurement. (Jeff Herman, Guide to Book Publishers, Editors, Literary Agents [2010], p. 893.) The hero in this sort of experience ordinarily has a trusty gang helping him accomplish the mission. Commonly, one of the believed bunch sells out the others. A site called The Art of Manliness records 50 anecdotal experience books that have a place in The Essential Mans Library. In spite of the fact that the rundown includes crafted by living scholars, it is out of the blue overwhelming on the works of art. Kipling and Rider Haggard, for instance, are very much spoken to. IAP, CES, and other acronyms

IAP, CES, and other acronyms January is “supposed” to be an off-month for MIT students a break between the semesters to relax, recharge, recoup, and reflect*. But somehow I managed to be at least as busy as I was in October or November, which, despite the excitement and adventures, has wrought havoc on my personal health, just in time for me to start the spring semester at the tail end of a prolonged battle with the flu. * I’m actually not sure about the last two; I just started with ‘relax’ and ‘recharge’ and then felt obligated to continue. Sometimes I feel like I’m slowly devolving into a Markov Chain. I drafted most of this post in the eerie, apprehensive calm before the academic storm, when classes had started but I didn’t yet have any work, but then life happened and school exploded and my to-do list overflowed its buffer in memory. But without further ado or apologies, let’s recap the last 106 days (!!!) since my last post. During IAP, the MIT Alumni Association runs an “Externship” program in which they pair undergraduates and alumni for miniature, month-long internships. Externships are awesome because they’re accessible to anyone and are a bite-sized, low-commitment sampling of the corporate workplace. This year, there were over 400 externship listings, including positions with alumni working at Apple, Google, and NASA. I wasn’t originally planning on externing (if MIT has taught me anything, it’s that everything can be a verb), since there was a class on campus I wanted to take over IAP, but while browsing the externship catalog one night, one position jumped out at me. It was with Plume Labs, a French tech startup, and they were looking for MIT undergraduates to go to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas with them. It’s going to be difficult to put this in perspective, so bear with me. CES is the Mecca of the technology world. It’s a trade show not open to the public for every company around the world even marginally related to technology, who all descend on Las Vegas the first week of every year to exhibit all the cutting-edge tech that will trickle down into consumer markets in the next decade or so. Last year at CES 2015 the convention attracted over 170,000 attendees (more than twice the population of the city I grew up in) and over 3,600 companies, including 82 of the Fortune 100. It’s kind of a Big Deal. CES is geek paradise, and Plume Labs was offering two free tickets. Needless to say, I applied with excessive enthusiasm. Plume does air pollution (fixing it, not making it). They made a mobile app that works like a local hourly weather forecast, but for air quality, and are working on other things I can’t speak about publicly right now (words I’ve always wanted an excuse to say). Originally I wasn’t exactly sure what my job would be, so in late October, Seiji ‘19 (the other extern) and I had lunch with Romain Lacombe, the founder and CEO, who walked us through the concept: since Romain would likely be busy networking with investors, executives, and doing other mysterious professional CEO-y things, Seiji and I would scout out all 2.2 million square feet of exhibit space looking for potential partners, competitors, or anyone who could be interested in Plume, armed to the teeth with business cards and sales pitches. And so, on January 4th, I flew into Las Vegas with Seiji and Romain for CES 2016. We stayed at a villa with a few other startups that were visiting, spent a day preparing, rehearsing, and plotting, then hit the exhibit floor the minute it opened. I expected CES to be huge, but it still blew me away. Just Samsung’s booth was the size of MIT’s entire career fair. I shook more hands and talked to more executives than I could possibly keep track of, and handed out business cards like they were free money. I felt like the physical incarnation of every tech startup cliche, spewing condensed streams of mysterious buzzwords to everyone who would listen, and I actually kind of enjoyed it! I cant really describe how convincing these holograms were! This feels like a metaphor for something, but Im not sure what. Somehow, the rest of the month didn’t slow down either. After three exhausting days, I flew back to Boston to resume a class I’d started remotely the one I wanted to do instead of externing. I decided to eat my cake and have it too, so I missed the first week of 6.037 (“Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs”) and emailed in the first assignment while in Vegas. I moved out of my dorm into the Zeta Psi house with a new roommate, the estimable Obasi ‘17. I went back to my group in the Media Lab and joined another project as a UROP. I set an aggressive schedule of personal projects I wanted to tackle for fun. I redesigned my website. But there are different kinds of work and stress, and reorganizing my life and exploring new spaces despite demanding an equally unhealthy sleep schedule was a refreshing and re-energizing break from the intense, theoretical academic semester I’d just exited. I felt in control and on top of the world. It felt like that weird kick you get from cleaning your room without anyone telling you to. Apart from getting the flu, I felt the most content I’d even been. And now I’m back, immersed in classes, and taking a quick break on a beautiful sunny day to blog about it all. I’ll write some more about my spring semester shenanigans soon (“soon” ™), but until then, here are some pictures of the Kresge oval that Im writing this from!

According to the encyclopedia Encarta, a civilization is an advanced state of a society possessing historical and cultural unity. Mesopotamians were not concerned with the afterlife since they believed that only Gods could reach immortality. In the other hand, Egyptians devoted a lot of time to the idea of an afterlife, because of this, they built temples, mummified their kings and wrote books such as The Book of the Dead. Spirituality was of main concern to the Egyptians, who were polytheistic with supernatural beings such as the creator god Ptah and the life-death-rebirth god Osiris. Their take on religion was much more optimistic than the M esopotamians since the rise of the Nile was predictable and therefore interpreted as kinder manifestations of the gods. For a small period of time Egypt became monotheistic under the rule of Akhenaton, worshipping the sun-god Amon. China developed a philosophical spiritualism with Confucianism and Taoism. Both were concerned with morals and the search of happiness. The mandate of heaven is also a Chinese manifestation of spiritual belief where the king receives a blessing and authority from heaven to govern. India was a polytheistic civilization, where Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism were the predominant religions. Perception Of Perfection Body Image - 1088 Words

Perception Of Perfection Body Image is a person’s feelings toward how sexually attractive one finds their own body to be; this may be a belief of sexual attractiveness of their own body, which may be forced onto them by others or social media. The phrase body image was first established by the Austrian neurologist and psychoanalyst Paul Schilder in 1935. Human society places great value on beauty of the human body, but a person s perception of their own body may not correspond to society s standards . As early as the 1900’s, a curvy body was celebrated and a full hourglass figure was desired by men and by women themselves. The image of a desirable body has drastically changed due to new visions of an ideal body through social standards, from curvy and bodacious to thin and skeletal. . Current interest in healthy lifestyles has been beneficial to many in our population, but overemphasis on achieving the Perfect Body can lead to unhealthy and even disastrous results both physically and mentally. The use of media in today’s society and pressure to have The Perfect Body seems to play a negative role on body dissatisfaction mainly among adolescents and young adults. Effects Of Internet Essay Example For Students

Effects Of Internet Essay The popularity of internet technology in the last three year has gown into a new phenomenon. The information super highway has connected our society in ways that where previously unimaginable. Now, with a service that is afordable, one can connect with an internet service provider. Not only do we have the technology, but it is accessible to most American people. The appeal to the information super highway is its convenience. We live in a age in which we have the ability to access our federal governmental agencies as well as printed publications via the internet. With the click of a mouse button the average American is able to connect with the United States Post Office, Internal Revenue Service, and even the White House. Many publications such as newspapers and national magazines are accessible though the internet. The wide array of publications rage from The New York Times to People Magazine. Subscribers of the accesses to the internet may now find printed publications to be a thing of the past. If users can access the news straight from the Cincinnati Enquirer on thier computer screens, what is thier motivation to pay additional money for the printed version? Not only can individuals access news publications from the past and present, but they can also access literature in its entirety. The same issue abides: If users can access the novel I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings on thier desktop computers, why would they purchase it at a book store? Beyond the financial issue, we may now have found our answer to the prudent problem of tearing down the rain forests. The use of the internet instead of printed publications could possibly make the waste of paper obsolete. As good as the modern convenience of the internet may sound, there are several underlying problems. Two of problems involved that I will discuss are laziness and dependency. The first problem, laziness, becomes obvious from my previous description of the lack of motivation. If a person no longer has the motivation to purchase item from retailers other than retailers on the internet, a problem will arise. In theory, laziness will occur because the population will no longer have to leave their homes. People are currently able to obtain literature and news from their computers. The internet has already created a more lazy society. The second possible problem with new technology is dependency. With the vast availability the internet is providing our society, Americans have become dependent on the technology. This dependency is what I fear. If people become reliant on the internet, what would happen if the convenience was taken from them? The possibility of the computer age ending is real. Computer viruses and the possibility of the cash of all computer in the year 2000 could make the internet dissapear. The information super highway could end for other various known and unknown reasons as well. If Americans have become dependent on the technology, how would the adjust to it being taken from them? I believe that the convenience of the internet out wieghs the possibilities of its descent. The given concerns warrant attention, but should not preoccupy our thought as we enjoy the internet and its convence. As Americans we tend to live in the minute, and the minute offers us a wonderful convenience. We should enjoy the modern technology that has brought us the internet. We would be ignorant not to take advantage of what modern day technology has brought to our desktops.

Teenage Alcoholism Essays - Alcohol Abuse, Drinking Culture

Teenage Alcoholism Let American Consumer Counseling Help you Get Out of Debt! Teenage Alcoholism Teenagers today have no idea what alcoholism really is. They think that they can never become alcoholics. They think that it could never happen to them, but they are wrong. Stress, Family problems and the desire to be popular are wrong the cause of teenage alcoholism. Signs that a teenager has a drinking problem and steps that parents can take to help their child are what I will discuss in this paper. The critical ingredient common to all alcoholic beverages is ethyl alcohol or ethanol ( Lang 21). It is a clear, tasteless liquid formed through the fermentation of sugars by yeast spores ( Lang 21). The amount of alcohol produced depends on the type and amount of sugar in the original mixture, the type of yeast used, the temperature maintained during the fermentation process. American beers, which contain about 3% to 6% alcohol, are made from malted barley and hops (he ripened and dried cones of the hop plant). Most wines are made by fermenting grapes or berries, and normally reach a maximum of about 15% alcohol. Though they are sometimes fortifies with additional ethanol alcohol and thus may reach 20% alcohol in cherry or port wines. Teenage years are filled with unsure time. Intense pressure to perform and succeed are felt by many youths, according to Alliant Health Systems, Louisville, Ky. Perceived failure at home and or school can lead to the need for escape. Teenagers often see their parents react to stress by drinking. This providing and example for them. They also see their favorite movie actors or actresses getting drunk when they go to a movie so they think that it's OK for them to o it but what they don't know it really hurts them in the long run. With their parents, the might being having marital problems and that can usually drive a teenager to drink. The desire to be accepted and popular among their friends encourages many to begin drinking as well. The ability to consume a lot of alcohol is associated with being a "real man or woman" ( Lang 23). When teens see adults drink heavily and movie stars on screen getting drunk, the message that gets through is that "it's cool to drink" which is the wrong one to be sending. Almost one half (47.9 %) of seniors drink alcohol at least once a month 19.8 % drink at least once a week. Nearly one third (30.7%) of ninth graders drink some kind of alcohol monthly or more often 12% drink at least once a week. Thirteen (13.2%) of seventh graders and 6.6% of sixth graders drink alcohol regularly. Regular use of alcohol has no changed significantly since the first survey in 1989. (Casey 1). Crime is inextricably related to alcohol and other drugs (AOD). More than 1.1 million annual arrests for illicit drug violations, almost 1.4 million arrests for driving while intoxicated, 480,000 arrests for liquor law violations and 704,000 arrests for drunkenness come to a total of 4.3 million arrests for alcohol and other drug statutory crimes. That total accounts for over one-third of all arrests in this country. ( Lang 33) The impaired judgment and violence induced by alcohol contribute to alcohol-related crime. Rapes, fights, and assaults leading to injury, manslaughter, and homicide often are linked with alcohol because the perpetrator, the victim, or both were drinking. The economic cost of AOD-related crime is $61.8 billion annually. Many perpetrators of violent crime were also using illicit drugs. Some of these drugs, such as PCP and steroids, may induce violence. These drugs can also be a catalyst for aggressive-prone individuals who exhibit violent behavior as a result of taking them. The need for preventing alcohol and other drug problems is clear when the following statistics are examined: Alcohol is a key factor in up to 68 percent of manslaughters, 62 percent of assaults, 54 percent of murders/attempted murders, 48 percent of robberies, and 44 percent of burglaries. Among jail inmates, 42.2 percent of those convicted of rape reported being under the influence of alcohol or alcohol and other drugs at the time of the offense.[5] Over 60 percent of men and 50 percent of women arrested for property crimes (burglary, larceny, and robbery) in 1990, who were voluntarily tested, tested positive for illicit drug use. In 1987, 64 percent of all reported child abuse and neglect cases in New York City were associated with parental AOD abuse. (Lang 55) In 1992, there were 6,839 deaths due to alcohol. There were 1,154 deaths from direct alcohol

Everybodys Ethnic Enigma Example

Everybodys Ethnic Enigma Example Everybody's Ethnic Enigma – Article Example Everybodys Ethnic Enigma In every society, differences occur among individuals. Such differences may naturally occur or may be established out of people’s doing. Some natural differences in the global scene include sex, race, disability and sexual orientation. While the afore-mentioned differences are natural, individuals have different perceptions regarding such differences. This article will explore differences as described by Rosenblum and Travis and its applicability in McLeod’s â€Å"Everybody’s Ethnic Enigma†. According to Rosenblum and Travis (2005), differences in American society are evident in the way people perceive sex, class, sexual orientation and race. According to the two authors, racial categories exist without regard to social processes. Instead, they are objective categories that exist in the real sense among individuals. The two authors also reveal that conceptions are devoid of meanings except those given them by observers. In other wo rds, Rosenblum and Travis believe that difference is a creation rather than an intrinsic phenomenon. What this really means is that individuals make judgments based on their perspectives as opposed to their nature. Differences are greatly emphasized by Jaliet Macleod’s biracial character nature in â€Å"Everybody’s Ethnic Enigma† (1976). The biracial character is perceived to be white as opposed to Asian by some, and her Asian roots are looked at with disappointment. From her experiences, it is almost clear that ethnicity is a factor that bears heavily on the way people are treated in America (and possibly other societies) in spite of the society claiming to be liberal. Upon discovering that she is not pure white, the man in the elevator is disappointed and admits that he thought that she was â€Å"one of us†. It is evident that people’s communications and experiences borrow a lot from their understanding of differences. The aspect of privilege is very evident in â€Å"Experiencing Differences†. The privileged in society feel that they are entitled to certain things that others are not entitled to. They have a feeling that they should be rewarded, acknowledged and respected according to Rosenblum and Travis (1996). People who belong to privileged groups also believe that they deserve recognition and benefits for their statuses without really appreciating how such benefits are derived. In McLeod’s article, people derive status by belonging to one ethnic group and not the other. This is seen in the way the she is treated by those who would wish to believe that she is white and not Asian. She however has mastered the art of fitting into each group and manages to auger well with people of different ethnic backgrounds in different occasions. In conclusion, differences many times occur naturally, and are perceived differently depending on the experiences and background of observers. Difference is the observer’s creation and not an intrinsic characteristic. People from privileged groups always feel like they should be treated in certain ways and that they deserve certain things.ReferencesMacleod J. (1976) Everybody’s Ethnic Enigma: Washington. COMMENT 2 INT LAW - Essay Example In the case at bar, assuming that the Red Cross emblem was put up to lure soldiers into vulnerable positions, the soldiers can legally fire on the building and against the insurgents occupying the building. Many experts acknowledge that the Red Cross emblem may be used by both conflicting parties. And â€Å"once the unity of the emblem is breached, its protective value –and hence the safety of the wounded and the medical personnel—is threatened† (International Committee of the Red Cross and the Red Cross Crescent, p. 6-7 as cited by McCormack, p. 266). However, as the commander of the platoon engaged in armed conflict with the insurgents, it is my obligation to ensure that no unnecessary harm is visited upon civilians, the wounded, and the Red Cross personnel in the hospital building. Therefore, an air strike on the building would be out of the question because it would potentially bring harm and danger to civilians and medical personnel in the building. The Hagu e Rules of Warfare emphasize that aerial bombardment is legitimate only when directed at a military objective and in case such objective is established, aerial bombardment cannot be carried out if possible harm to the civilian population may be caused (Article 24: 3). The International Committee of the Red Cross Draft Rules of 1956 also sets forth that distinctions should be made between military and civilian objects in warfare. They emphasize that â€Å"the obligation to respect the distinction between military and non-military objectives as well as persons participating in hostilities and members of the civilian population remains and fundamental principle of international law†. Therefore, in neutralizing the situation at hand, I will order return fire via automatic weapons directed to the second floor of the building. If possible, snipers should be called in to fire on the

IB biology HL lab Investigate the effects of sodium bicarbonate and Report - 1

IB biology HL Investigate the effects of sodium bicarbonate and light intensity on the rate of photosynthesis of leaves through the observation of floating leaf discs - Lab Report Example In this experiment, the aim is to investigate on the effects of sodium bicarbonate and the intensity of light on the photosynthesis rate in green spinach leaves through the use of floating leaf disks. Being autotrophic organisms, leaves depend on the photosynthesis process that occurs in a series of enzyme mediated steps to capture light and build energy rich carbohydrates. Leaves, when put under water undergo the light-dependent reaction process, thereby producing and releasing oxygen to their interior parts; thus, causing them to rise. However, during the same process, another process, cellular respiration, takes place and consumes the produced oxygen. Therefore, this implies that leaves must have provided the source of carbon that would allow for photosynthesis to take place (Renger, 2008). The available carbon dioxide coupled with the amount of light that the plant receives, the rate of photosynthesis is influenced. With the aspect of sodium bicarbonate arising from the CO2, it is predictable that the same would have an effect on photosynthesis rate. In this lab report, data shall be presented for the variables of the study in categories of control, dependent and independent variables. The data collected shall be in the form of number of disks that floated during the experiment when subjected under different intensities of light and solutions. The hypothesis is that when the green spinach leaves are exposed to higher light intensities in the presence of the sodium bicarbonate, less time will be taken for the leaf disks to float. This is for the reason that there is an increase in the production rate of oxygen during the photosynthesis process that the leaf disks undergo. Upon setting up an experiment in the recommended manner using all the laboratory materials and procedures, the following data was recorded in relation to the number of leaf disks that float to the top of

Product pricing is one of those aspects of the marketing plan that is neglected- in some plans it is completely absent! The reason for this stems from thefact that all other aspects of marketing can be easily identified and quantifiedwhereas pricing is more of an art than a science. The product pricing issues that face any company are verycomplex in nature due to the numerous variables that have to be consideredbefore understanding pricing parameters. A company may have two objectives in its pricing policy. One may be to increasemarket share the other to increase profitability. It is NOT possible toachieve both objectives simultaneously. We will now consider the factors that should be taken intoaccount when trying to resolve the question of whether the business should tryto gain market share or increase profitability. Objectives and the product portfolio Every business should have a series of objectives relating to sales, profits, market share and return on capital. The business objectives might be such thatit calls for short term profits. However, the business owner should be consciousthat any decision made only for short term profitability will impact the longterm survival of the business. This is especially true if pricing decisions aremade in an ad-hoc manner it is probable that the goodwill that the company hasgenerated with its customers will be destroyed due to unreasonably high prices. The setting of marketing objectives for any particular product is thereforewithout doubt the starting point in any consideration of pricing. Product life cycle According to the product life cycle a product passes through 4stages, they are: Introduction: Product has been just introduced to the market so the price will typically be at the higher end; Growth: this is the stage in which a products sales increases rapidly price is set high at the growth phase to skim the market; Maturity saturation: Here the product reached optimal sales and plateaus out price is gradually reduced to maintain market share and meet the threat of competition; Decline: The product ceases to be popular due to a variety of reasons and decline sets in price cutting is in full swing to make sure that all inventory is exhausted before market demand runs out, a type of harvesting the market. The importance of the product life cycle in pricing cannot beunderstated. Obviously the pricing strategies at the different stages shoulddiffer to ensure that profits are maximized. Product Positioning The term product positioning has already been explained. It is avery important concept in setting the price of the product. It is clearly veryfoolish to position a product as a high quality exclusive item, and then priceit too low. Price is one of the clearest signals that the customer has aboutthe value of the product being offered. So there should always be a sensiblerelationship between the product and the price. Competition and potential competition Although the product has been well positioned there will alwaysbe competitors and it goes without saying that the threat of the competitionshould be carefully considered. In a situation of high competition it isimportant to note that competing purely on price is counter productive. Thebusiness should consider all elements of the marketing mix and how they interactto create demand and value for the product should be considered in setting theoverall competing strategy. Some firms launch new products at high prices only to find thatthey have made the market attractive to competitors who will launch similarproducts at much lower prices. A lower launch price might make diffusion in themarket quicker and allow for greater experience and the margin for a competitorto enter the market will be reduced.

Benefits of strategic management Essay -- essays research papers fc

â€Å"Research has revealed that organisations that engage in strategic management generally out-perform those that do not† The connotation of the ancient Greek word â€Å"strategos†, in its various grammatical forms, implies meaning of skilful manoeuvouring leading to achieving a highly crucial position or attaining a desired end. Commonly associated with the military operations, strategies aim at methodical out-performance of adversaries. Analogically, application of deliberate strategies in the business management context suggests combination of activities directed at becoming superior to business opponents. Hence, it can be assumed that engaging in these activities will produce better business results than not doing so. This essay attempts to provide evidence to support the opening statement. It firstly reviews the purpose of managerial activities from the historic perspective. It, then discusses the impact of strategic management process components on organisational performance and finally describes benefits of strategic thinking and strategic integration. The analysis concentrates on matching the theoretical principles of strategic management with the pragmatic business examples. For the purpose of this discussion, out-performance has been defined as surviving on the existing or successful entering the new market. Although definitions of management range from very simple statements, like the one of Frederick Taylor – â€Å"knowing exactly what you want people to do and then seeing that they do it in the best and cheapest way† (Taylor, 1903, p. 21) to complex postulates listing managerial activities and objectives (Davidson & Griffin, 2003, p. 5), their common denominator points to a set of deliberate actions to achieve organisational efficiency – â€Å"using resources wisely† (Davidson & Griffin, 2003, p. 7) and effectiveness – â€Å"making the right decisions† (Davidson & Griffin, 2003, p. 7). Accompanied by a large volume of the theoretical work, management practice, can therefore be broadly described as a constant search for the optimal performance methodologies. Thus, from the historical point of view, it can be proposed that strategic management is a twentieth century form of the management discipline that emerged as a result of the evolution process necessitated by the changes in the organisational internal and external environment. Histroy of Indian Tea Essay

Tea was first introduced into India by the British, in an attempt to break the Chinese monopoly on tea.[1] The British, â€Å"using Chinese seeds, plus Chinese planting and cultivating techniques, launched a tea industry by offering land in Assam to any European who agreed to cultivate tea for export.†[1] Tea was originally only consumed by Anglicized Indians, and it was not until the 1950s that tea grew widely popular in India through a successful advertising campaign by the India Tea Board.[2] Prior to the British, the plant may have been used for medicinal purposes. Some cite the Sanjeevani tea plant first recorded reference of tea use in India. However, studies have shown that Sanjeevani plant was likely a plant unrelated to the tea plant (Camellia sinensis) and more likely refers to either Selaginella bryopteris or Desmotrichum fimbriatum.[3] In the early 1820s, the British East India Company began large-scale production of tea in Assam, India, of a tea variety traditionally brewed by the Singpho tribe. In 1826, the British East India Company took over the region from the Ahom kings through the Yandaboo Treaty. In 1837, the first English tea garden was established at Chabua in Upper Assam; in 1840, the Assam Tea Company began the commercial production of tea in the region, run by indentured servitude of the local inhabitants. Beginning in the 1850s, the tea industry rapidly expanded, consuming vast tracts of land for tea plantations. By the turn of the century, Assam became the leading tea producing region in the world.[4] Writing in The Cambridge World History of Food’, Weisburger & Comer write: â€Å"The tea cultivation begun there [India] in the nineteenth century by the British, however, has accelerated to the point that today India is listed as the world’s leading producer, its 715,000 tons well ahead of China’s 540,000 tons, and of course, the teas of Assam, Ceylon (from the island nation known as Sri Lanka), and Darjeeling are world famous. However, because Indians average half a cup daily on per capita basis, fully 70 percent of India’s immense crop is consumed locally.† Modern tea production in India India was the top producer of tea for nearly a century, but recently China has overtaken India as the top tea producer due to increased land availability. Indian tea companies have acquired a number of iconic foreign tea enterprises including British brands Tetley and Typhoo. India is also the world’s largest tea-drinking nation. However, the per capita consumption of tea in India remains a modest 750 grams per person every year due to the large population base and high chhass(A milk product) consumption. Recently the consumption of Green tea has seen a great growth potential in India. The market is growing by over 50% y-o-y[5] and is expected to reach a size of INR 6000 crore form its current size in year 2013 of approx. INR 1500 crore. This is primarily driven by the increasing disposable income of middle class Indian, who are willing to spend more money on their personal health and well being. The major tea-producing states in India are: Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Sikkim, Nagaland, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Bihar, Orissa. Government and the Indian tea industry The Indian tea industry as the second largest employer in the country has enjoyed the attention of the Indian government. When export sales went down, the government has been sympathetic to the demand of the industry and its cultivators. It has passed resolutions supporting the industry domestically and has also lobbied extensively with organizations like the WTO internationally. The Indian administration along with the European Union and six other countries (Brazil, Chile, Japan, South Korea and Mexico) filed a complaint with the WTO against the Byrd Amendment which was formally known as the Continued Dumping and Subsidy Offset Act of 2000 legislated by the US. The essence of this act was that non-US firms which sell below cost price in the US could be fined and the money given to the US companies who made the complaint in the first place. The act adversely affected the commodities business of the complainant states and has since been repealed after WTO ruled the act to be illegal. Furthermore, the Indian government took cognizance of the changed tea and coffee market and set up an Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) to look into their problems in late 2003. The IMC has recommended that the government share the financial burden of plantation industry on account of welfare measures envisaged for plantation workers mandated under the Plantation Labour Act 1951. Moreover, IMC has recommended to introduce means so that the agricultural income tax levied by the state governments can be slashed and the tea industry be made competitive. It has recommended that sick or bankrupt plantation estates should be provided with analogous level of relaxation for similarly placed enterprises/estates as are available to industries referred to BIFR. A Special Tea Term Loan (STTL) for the tea sector was announced by the Indian government in 2004. It envisaged restructuring of irregular portions of the outstanding term/working capital loans in the tea sector with repayment over five to seven years and a moratorium of one year, which was to be on a case to case basis for large growers.
